Make sure to use power adapter on laptop hdd's. 1) Attach hdd to adapter. 2) Attach power to adapter. 3) Plug power cord into outlet. 4) Plug usb into computer and give it about a minute to recognize it. 5) If you can't see it in My Computer / HDD's then used Acronis, DiscWizard, etc to finish setting it up.
